02 May new study about algorithms and gender
Music recommendation calculations could be amplifying the industry’s present gender bias difficulty, according to a study that suggests a new method allowing higher vulnerability for female artists.
The existance of a gender bias in the music industry is not unknown. As an example, a study of the top five music charts in the UK between the years 1960-1995 revealed how popular music is affected by a large gender inequality using a prejudice in listening preferences towards male artists.
A recent study of music festivals found that lineups are greatly skewed towards male performers and this prejudice is also thought to be widespread in music streaming programs like Spotify.
